YOUTH CORPS

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

What kinds of Volunteering can I do?  Youth Corps Volunteers work with computers, make copies and help with clerical tasks.  They make cookies, interact with patients, listen, read stories and share music.  They enjoy working outside or assisting with lunch in our PACE program.

What should youth wear on Midland Care campus?  Midland Care has a dress code for paid staff and volunteers.  All volunteers are to dress in a professional manner.  If Youth Corps Volunteers are working outside or in a job that requires different clothing, they will be notified.

A TB test?  Why?  Midland Care has multiple programs that are regulated under federal and state laws.  All staff - paid and unpaid (volunteers) - receive a TB skin test within seven days of their start date.  This two-step process includes a test of each arm.

What about program costs?  Currently, Youth Corps has no budget.  However, in July 2009, grant funding was secured through Topeka Community Foundation.  Many donations were shared by community groups, businesses and private donors.  These monies have provided well for our 2009 Youth Corps program.  If you wish to offer your assistance through funding or donations, please contact Midland Care Volunteer Services.

In case of emergency, what happens?    Parents/guardians are notified and necessary action for safety is taken.

Do I wear a uniform?  Yes!  Each Youth Corps Volunteer recieves a cool Midland Care t-shirt and name badge.

Who oversees Midland Care Youth Corps?  Oversight happens through Volunteer Services.  Adult mentors for the program are Midland Care Staff & Volunteers.
