Midland Care History
Midland Care Connection, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. Operating as Midland Care, the organization provides a continuum of specialty health services. As the pioneer and leader in end-of-life and senior elder care, Midland Care has been providing services to the communities of northeast Kansas for over 35 years.
1978 - Volunteers concerned for the quality of life for the dying form Hospice of Topeka
1979 - Hospice of Topeka is incorporated
1981 - Received 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit status
1983 - Hospice of Topeka in response to growth and community needs, changes name to Friends of Hospice, Inc.
1983 - Opens offices at 823 Washburn Ave.
1990 - Purchases the historic mansion previously owned by Chester Woodward at 1272 SW Fillmore Ave
1991 - Became Hospice Medicare Certified
1992 - Friends of Hospice, Inc. changes name to Midland Hospice Care, Inc.
1992 - Began providing adult day care
1992 - Osage County Hospice merges with Midland Hospice Care
1994 - Southview Hospice merges with Midland Hospice Care
1994 - Midland Hospice Care opens Ottawa office on Main Street
1994 - Midland Hospice Care moves to 22 acre campus on Frazier Circle, which formerly housed the Children's Hospital Division of the Menninger Foundation
2000 - The Hospice House opens, the first free-standing inpatient hospice facility in Kansas
2004 - Garden View Respite opens to provide overnight respite services for caregivers
2005 - Recognizing changing scope and addition of services, corporation name officially changed to Midland Care Connection, Inc.
2007 - Midland Care PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) opens at the 37th PACE program in America
2008 - Midland Care opens Council Grove, Kansas office
2008 - Youth Corps volunteer program for youth begins
2009 - Hospice program accredited by CHAP (Community Health Accreditation Program)
2010 - Midland Care opens Lawrence, Kansas office on Perry Street
2011 - Midland Care Home Health becomes Medicare Certified
2013 - Midland Care at Linnwood Park in Valley Falls, Kansas opens
2013 - Midland Care at Indiana Place in Topeka, Kansas opens
2014 - Following three years of program development, Midland Care earnes the NHPCO We Honor Veterans initiative’s highest honor: The Fourth Star.
