I have worked at Midland Care for five years as a hospice nurse. There are so many things I love about this work. Being there at end of life is so important for my patients and their families. For my patients, I help manage symptoms so that they can have peace. I also provide support for the family and help educate them about the dying process so they know what to expect. I like providing home care because it gives me the opportunity to get to know my patients and develop long term relationships with them and their families. It’s not like working at a hospital, where you see someone at one shift and may not see them again. You truly get to form relationships. – Jodi Holzmeister, R.N. BSN CHPN, Topeka Hospice Team Leader
Daytime, evening and weekend shifts are available with flexible hours and one-week-on, one-week-off availability. New weekend incentive program! Weekend incentives include day and night shifts, as well as pay incentives, i.e. work two 12 hour shifts (24 hours) and get paid for 30 hours, or work a Friday 8 hour, and two weekend 12 hour shifts (32 hours) and get paid for 40 hours. Both shift options are eligible for full-time benefits.
I recently had an elderly patient who kept asking me why I was brought into his life. His last week of life, he decided I was his living angel. The day before he passed, I came to visit him – he greeted me with “Hi Angel.” He passed with comfort and dignity in his own home, right where he wanted to be. – Ann Stevens, Midland Care Hospice RN
