Often grieving children feel very alone. They think they are the only child who is grieving, sometimes even when there are other children in the same house who are also grieving. There is something that happens when a large group of grieving children get together that is difficult to put words to. The outcome is truly amazing – they find support from each other, they grow in their ability to cope with their grief, they learn about this thing called grief, they make new friends and they have fun. Welcome to Healing Hearts Children’s Grief Camp! Healing Hearts Camp is hosted by The Center for Hope and Healing at Midland Care. This is a weekend camp for children ages 6 to 12 who are grieving the death of a loved one. The camp is held in a beautiful location just outside of Harveyville. This year’s camp will be held the weekend of September 27th – 29th.
The weekend is a mix of grief support group sessions and having fun. Grief support group sessions focus on learning about grief, learning new coping skills, time to remember their loved ones and finding some healing through different activities. Some of the fun activities that are planned for the weekend include camp games, camp songs, fishing, arts and craft projects, making s’mores and hiking. Camp is staffed by a group of dedicated, trained, Midland Care staff and volunteers.
Midland Care is now accepting applications for Healing Hearts Camp. The cost of camp is $75 per child. Full and partial scholarships are available for those with financial need.
